Kerala Flood Relief: The Internet comes together
House succumbed into waters, No food, No electricity, Desperate Pleas for help; This is what God’s own country has been facing since 13 August 2018.
Kerala faced torrential downpours in past few days, the heavy floods were catastrophic in nature and disturbed the ecological set up therein. The death poll as reported stands near to 400 lives, whereas over 2 lakh shifted to the relief camp.
Internet coming together to save Kerala
The digital giants like Twitter, Facebook, Google, WhatsApp and Amazon have come together to the forefront to help in the rescue operations and relief camp. Meanwhile, twitter, facebook, WhatsApp, Vodafone helped via sharing immediate information of those stuck in the deluge.
Paytm claims to have collected as good as 30 crore rupees from over 12 lakh users for the Flood Relief camp.
“We are extremely proud to announce that we have received contributions of INR 10 Crore+ in less than 48 hours from more than 4 lakh Paytm users across India for #KeralaFloodRelief Paytm tweeted.
Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for help to rebuild the lives of people in the state. “At this of point of time, nothing can help as much as money,” Vijayan said.
Celebs Pitch in too
The B-town has also come up to show their responsibility and has urged people to donate for Kerala Flood Relief.
Bollywood celebrity Amitabh Bachchan has sent in his clothes and shoes apart from Rs 51 lakh in cash. The star couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma provided a truckload of food and medicines. One of the Indian actors, Randeep Hooda joined the Khalsa Aid team in the state to cook for people.
Khalsa Aid posted a photograph of the actor cooking with them to feed the affected people.
Actor Sushant Singh Rajput donated 1 crore rupees on behalf of a fan. One of his fans said that he wants to donate but has no money, to which Sushant replied by donating 1 crore rupees on his fan’s behalf.
Apart of this many actors were seen spreading awareness through the social media and urging their fans to donate. One such actor is Siddharth who urged his fans to help and donate in the best possible way.
Thereafter the list goes never-ending including Sunny Leone, Ayushmann Khurrana etc.
Social Workers, Writers, Student Activists, You and Me
Recently, Renowned writer and Infosys Chairperson Sudha Murthy was seen helping Infosys Foundation staff to pack relief material, the video went viral.
Not just her but activist like Gurmehar Kaur, who is said to have a voice, collected relief material via reaching out to people on the internet and offline as well.
Archana Kavi, who is an actress, also the wife of comedian Abish Mathew, went to the ground zero to aid the Relief camps.
She used Instagram stories to share every minute ground detail of those stuck, this not only helped people to see the real picture but aided people to reunite with their families.
People like you and me are seemed to be sharing links for donation, collection centre, pleas for help, and everything else on social media. Thus making it a movement altogether.
DFT ‘s Contribution towards Kerala Flood Relief
Drishti Foundation Trust came forward yet again to fulfil its social responsibility, With collection centres across the country, we have sent relief material to the ground zero. We also must not forget that the real disaster is the aftermath, and possibly it will take a long time for God’s own country to fall back into shape.
